A Space of Your Very Own

The alarm goes off, a kid or two (or three) are already in your bed.  You get up, make coffee, dreaming of sipping it quietly by yourself.  Everyone needs you right away, you have your own job and day to get ready for, you have responsibilities, you have, well…LIFE.  At some point during the day, ya just need your own little space to call your own, to feel calm, to re-center yourself and organize your thoughts.  A space to either just sit for 5 minutes and close your eyes; or maybe even take a little bit longer to read or write or have a cup of tea.  A space to tell yourself “Ok, I got this” or “How can I make that better for tomorrow”. It doesn’t have to be a big space at all, maybe it’s a favorite chair in the corner of the living room, or maybe you reinvent an existing space in your home just for you.

Here’s What I Did

There has been a certain space in my home that just wasn’t being utilized to its full potential. I mean, I used it as a depository for a bunch of stuff I didn’t know where else to put – we all have those spaces, right? Then I realized what prime real estate this is in my house – the natural light, it’s tucked away in a corner, it’s private –  and I decided to make it a little escape for myself.

I cleared everything away, put things where they needed to be, and got to work creating my space. There’s no need to spend a fortune on this little makeover, and maybe you already have a few fun things that can perfectly add to your space. I actually made a trip to my trusty Home Goods and Target store, picked up a few fun pillows and a cool wall decor piece. I just happen to be obsessed with velvet and animal prints so it was like a beam of light was shining down on these pillows at the store.  I’m also loving all the animal skull motifs lately, it might seem morbid, but I dig it.  And as my oldest son Liam says, “It’s very Georgia O’Keefe”, and he is right on!

Try to make it a space where you feel like you again, where your own personality comes through to reconnect with yourself. Now, after you create your space, tell yourself to actually use it!

You beyond deserve it.  Get into the routine of spending even just a few minutes there to just catch your breath. You need to take care of yourself, too.  It  makes you a better person/mom/daughter/friend.

I’m grateful to have so much chaos in my life to need and crave a little space of my own. Now Shhhhh!  Don’t tell anyone I’m here 😉
