Water Does A Body Good
Staying well hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your body! And it’s basically free!
How It All Started For Me
Having a glass of water used to be the last thing on my list. I just wasn’t a fan. I mean, it was tasteless and boring to me. I actually started drinking more water when I was pregnant – not because I craved it, but because it was good for the baby and overall pregnancy. Then after my babies were born, I nursed, and again drank a ton of water – not because I wanted to, but to help keep my milk supply up.
Once I was done having my babies, I was ready to help my body out just for me. I had always been active and exercised ever since I was a teenage, but I was in my 30’s now and my body had changed. I was reading all about little changes you could do to kick start an even healthier you. Staying well hydrated was always the basis for staying well – and that was something I could definitely do as a busy mom of 3. So I did it. Right off the bat I started drinking 3 liters a day (about 9-10 full glasses), and I’ve been doing that every single day for the past 3 years. I can honestly say within the first month of drinking my water, I noticed amazing benefits. I was more energized, I could do more, and my skin – wow! It looked younger, fresh and dewey. So I was definitely going to keep up with my water intake, I loved everything it was doing for me. Sometimes I would dress up my water, maybe add and lemon or a lime. After all, citrus also has amazing health benefits – very detoxifying and cleansing. All my kids only drink water too. They never got on to any juice or soda kicks. Maybe because I always just gave them water from from the start. Maybe they lead by example. Maybe a little bit of both. They bring their water bottles with them all day long – to school, or just whenever we leave the house. I used to have to carry these suckers in my bag for them when they were too little little to handle carrying them by themselves. That was one heavy bag! Now they can grab them and be responsible for them on their own.
Needless to say, I have seen the light and I’m a huge believer how beneficial drinking water can be. Below I have listed my top 10 ten reasons I like to drink water.
Tara’s Top Ten
- Water helps with your immune system. I think I’ve had maybe 1 bad cold since I’ve starting drinking plenty of water. It helps flush out toxins in your body.
- Water helps with exercise, running, instructing classes. It keeps mobility easier to achieve. I can get through a 10 mile run or instructing a one hour class and not feel completed depleted.
- Water gives me much more energy. I don’t feel as sluggish, I feel more awake and I’m able to tackle the million things that need to get done for my family.
- Water helps with digestion. It’s keeps things moving along as they should. I find it even helps with heartburn.
- Water helps with weight control. I feel with the balance of exercise and drinking plenty of water, I’m able to splurge and let myself have more tasty treats once and a while.
- My skin. You seriously look younger! Water literally plumps out your skin from within to look fuller and show less wrinkles. You glow!
- Plenty of water helps with muscle cramping. Whether you are exercising or not, muscle cramps happen and they hurt! Drinking water keeps muscles happy.
- It’s a mood lifter! You feel cleansed. You know you are putting safe, clean and pure things into your body and it’s helping you with so many things – that in itself makes you feel better as a person, as a mom. And if Mom feels good, all is right with the world.
- I actually crave it and need it. If I don’t have a glass of water all morning (rare) I desperately need one! All I want is that glass of water and I immediately feel recharged.
- It’s basically free! I actually drink tap water. Our town has great water. I occasionally will even drink from the hose on a hot summer’s day with my kids.
Only two negatives for me:
1. Constant peeing. But trust me, your body will adjust to all that water intake. You will slowly start to go less and less.
2. I like to take a daily multi vitamin. You are flushing out so mush in your body, you want to be sure you still have many of the important vitamins in your system.
Cheers!
And there you have it. My thoughts on drinking good ole fashioned water. My love for water came softly, but it’s here to stay. I’m grateful we are able to have something so beneficial and helpful for our bodies, and easily at our disposal. Cheers everyone!
