Tate is turning F I V E !! Time to party!
As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m a big fan of having home birthday parties. It’s how I grew up, and I loved creating all those memories right in my own house. I now like to try and do that for my own kids. I know space can be an issue at times, but you can get creative and move some furniture around…and if you’re lucky the weather might cooperate and you can be outside! (Yay! This happened for Tate’s party, thanks Mother Nature!) So, for all our kids, we try to do a bigger party for the 1st Birthday and for the 5th Birthday. All the other celebrations in between have been lower key, maybe just a few friends over etc. We haven’t gotten further than a 9th birthday, but we’re thinking maybe the next bigger shindig might be 16? 18? 21? I guess we will have to see. Alas, this party was bittersweet for me, as my little baby boy is turning five. Well, I have a few more weeks until he officially turns five, so I’m holding onto every second!
The Decor
My lil man luvs animals and wildlife. So of course we went with an animal theme for the big day, and it did not disappoint! The decor was simple and easy, thanks to Target. I’m all about target style. They had adorable little animal themed plates, napkins and cupcake toppers.
I even scored these awesome balloons there as well. The pennant banners I actually bought several years ago from
Paper Source – another great resource for your party inspiration.
Yes, time was not on my side the whole week prior to the party, so the cupcakes were store bought – and they were absolutely delicious.
The food was super easy – pizza and cupcakes, you don’t even need utensils. I had some popcorn and veggies out for snacks as well.
The party favors were easy too, thank you Target dollar bin. What kid doesn’t love bubbles? And these are giant bubbles!
Let’s Get This Party Started!
We had 8 little friends over at the house. The highlight of the party were the live animals, of course! I found a place nearby called
Wild Wonders that brings a selection of live animals to home birthday parties. They were reasonably priced, great to communicate with and always got right back to me with any questions. And thank you Lord, the weather was perfect to have the animal show outdoors. Our Wild Wonders leader took out each animal for all the kids to touch, feel and hold. The kids loved it, especially Tate! The whole presentation took about 45 minutes. For the little ones that started to lose interest – they could just explore the rest of the backyard, maybe go on the swing set, play basketball. They all eventually made their way back to the show. They are four and five years old so that’s totally expected.
That’s a Wrap!
After the live animal show, we washed our hands and sat down for some yummy pizza and cupcakes. Yes, it was a complete mess around the table once they were all finished, but totally worth it.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe all the prep work, excitement and planning that can go into a home birthday party…and then it’s over and out within two hours. But I love creating memories right here in our home and sharing them with friends.
I’m grateful everyday for all my babies. I’m thankful we are able to try and create a fun time for them on their special day, and seeing them happy and smiling is the icing on the cake for me. Happy Birthday Tate!
